Here are my top 10 favorite recent album purchases. Please note: Just because they are on this list doesn't mean they are recent. They could be old and moldy. It just means I recently bought, and enjoyed them. This list was last updated December 31,1998. If you'd like to have your top ten and commentary on this page, please drop me a line.

juan atkins

Juan Atkins
Vol. 1 Wax Trax Mastermix

Great mix cd featuring Blaze, Rob Hood, Derrick May, and many other good techno & house tracks.

Ben Nevils
Music for the Ho in your Life

Deep house mix cd by this Vancouver, BC DJ is often in my player. Moral lessons from a TV evangelist are mixed in to help guide you on your path to ho-dom. No, it's nothing like ghetto house. It's just funny. Contact him at this email for more information.

Enigmatic
Number 4

Deep, dark, hard jungle. Creep someone into a dancing frenzy. alien@alienz.org for more info.

lauryn hill

Lauryn Hill
The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill

I am not a big fan of R&B normally. (To say the least.) In fact, it most often makes me want to vomit profusely and run screaming from the room, clutching my ears. Yet for some reason, I love this album. She has a beautiful voice, style, and overall presence, and the lyrics are emotional without being cheese-from-hell.

Speedy J
Ginger

This guy is my favorite producer on earth. And that's saying a lot. *grin* considering my love for music of all kinds. While this isn't my favorite speedy j album, it definitely has its moments of beauty and is still highly recommended. It may be hard to find, though..

DJ Craig
Live at Babylon

The first time I listened to this tape, I thought it was pretty good. I found myself reaching for it again as some friends and I headed up for a road trip. Then I realized I needed to bring it with me on the way to work. Pretty soon it became a "staple tape" - one of those tapes you bring with you on most of your travels and freak out if you can't find it temporarily. Definitely grows on you in a positive way and has become one of my favorites. Deep house, featuring a great remix of Dubtribe's "We used to dance". Check out his webpage for more info about him and how/where to get tapes.

sky cries mary

Sky Cries Mary
Fresh Fruits for the Liberation

These folk are from seattle, like myself, and make beautiful spacey psychedelic sounds...ambient at times, more like rock at others. Supposedly they were the first band to broadcast a concert in real-time online. Check out SkyCriesMary.Com for more on them.

Nuphonic
Nuphonic 01

Great compilation includes tribal, house, and trip-hop from artists like Blaze, Free Chicago Movement, and more.

Various
Freestyle Files Vol. 4

*Great* 2 CD Compilation. So far this series has yet to let me down once and this was no exception. Also introduced me to the Gentle People with the song "Groovin with You" which I have been playing over and over. Also featured Soul Ascendants, Pole, and more.

Various
In Order to Dance Vol. 5

Great compilation with Kenny Larkin, Mu-Ziq, Aphex Twin, Luke Slater, Carl Craig, and much more. It's far from brand new, but still very recommended.
