and actually said that he thought people would be better of smoking pot than drinking.
The superbowl on that score was the most hypocrictical thing I ever saw. With 20 plus beer ads, then the anti-drug ads right after each other,

Get your facts straight then try and make a strong arguement about a complicated issue with an endless amount of political strings. On the other hand, I agree with your major point. Marijuana in my opinion should be legal. Just like cigarrettes and alcohol, it is bad for you, impairs your judgement, but it is ultimately your choice. Making marijuana legal would eliminate a enormous amount of street crime and violence which is associated with the selling of marijuana. Furthermore, controlling the growing and distribution of marijuana would enable the government or whoever to decrease the additives put into marijuana and to control the potentcy. Also, it would cut down on the millions of dollars that the government flushes down the toilet on anti drug programs which do very little except raise the prices and risks for street sellers and smugglers. In fact, making marijuana legal would probably be counter productive for the government, creating new markets for people to make money on the growing and selling of said product. But who knows, maybe the government's new anti-drug ads are right....marijuana makes you shoot your friends, get girls pregnant, and aids drug cartels in killling innocent families. |

First things first, pot does not cure cancer and make you "better" so that whole point is rediculous and should'nt even be considered, whoever wrote that, Feel very stupid, because you are. Secondly, this one is directed toward the somewhat intelligent souls out there, there is a very opinionated arguement that can be debated upon about the legalization of marijuana. Stret crime would decrease, but legalizing a drug like this would for one, make our ever strong country of the United States of Corporate C---suckers look mighty silly, introducing a gateway drug into the American public. Also, I'd like to add a comment on this stupid ass commercials we have been basically forced to whatch, puffing herb can effect judgment, more along the lines of cotton mouth and memory loss, but it does not force you to whip out a gun and start a 9mm rampage. This is Americas way of trying to control the selling of marijuana.....not working. To be blunt, my friends smoke pot, i do not. Not because i think it is so bad for you or anything like that, but it would be against my supporting reason for why bud should not be legalized, there is no reason. What good will legalizing marijuana do for this country? Sacrafice some more life so that we can put a little more green paper in the hands of the U.S government. Personally, I refuse to apply help and support to the people who killed J.F.K, and elected war hungry president Bush. |

Weed may make you stupid, careless, tired, but it will not kill you. You may get cancer. But there are legal things in this country that also may give you cancer (cigerettes, eggs, etc.) No one ever smoked a joint, got in their car, and than plowed into any little kids. Yet there are legal things in this country that cause this time and time and time again. In amsterdam the emphasis is on treatment rather than prevention (and that goes for weed, coke, smack, everything) and they seem to be doing all right. No one wants to make coke or smack legal, those drugs will kill you. Weed is agateway drug? Yes it is. But is it any more so than cold beers. If you like getting fucked up, you eventually will graduate to harder and harder things. Yet some people can drink leisurely and socially and not for the intoxicating elements that alcaholics search for. Why than can weed not be taken the same way. Smoke a joint after dinner, have some nice conversation, go to sleep. whats the problem. The government will tax it anyway, make more millions (just as they do with alcahol and cigerettes) and i can get high without looking over my shoulder. But Im not saying anything everybody doesn't allready know. The truth is is that if the hippies of the 60's had used beer instead of pot as their drug of choice, the politicians would be sparking up in toasts, and coors would be out of business. Somethings go to give though, we are fastly approaching a time when cigerettes will be illimated from out culture and made illegal. If this happens before marijuana is legalized than it will never be. So lets get on the ball people. Otherwise, I'll see you in Vancouver.

by Anonymous on Saturday, October 04 @ 10:18:09 PDT | | saying that marijuana is better for you that cigarettes is wrong, it also causes lung cancer, even more so if you smoke it with tobacco as generally you hold the smoke in your lungs for longer, unlike smoking cigarettes. it is also extremely easy to get as are cigarettes, im sure i could score a gram easily in about 15 minutes. marijuana should not be legal, i was a smoker myself and have sworn against it. it screws with your head, makes you less motivated and more tired and lazy, and this is in the long run. it can trigger mental illness such as schizophrenia and really the only good thing that comes from smoking piot, is the immediate high ... it is all down hill from there. dont legalize it, it is already legal to certain extents (i am from australia and it is legal is small amounts for personal use) ... also on the other side, if you want marijuana legalized, it will only become more expensive (as cigarettes have become) and the government will place tax's on it to make a profit. whichever way you look at it ( health risks or the hole thats going to b left in your pocket) legalization is a bad idea. |

I were a heavy pot smoker for 4 or 5 years. It totally fried my brain. Believe it or not, I smoked it to relax. What I got was 10+ years of physical and mental suffering.
Yeah, don't legalise it and tell people what it does.
When I started I was swept away on the romanse of the 60's.
I think there is a criminal lack of information from the 60's. That many people taking that much speed, acid and pot, must've caused a psychiactric overload situation (or maybe the authorities just didn't care).
I listen to hippy music now, 10 years on, and it sounds completely different, and not at all like the media portrayed image of Peace, Love and Harmony. It's actually all about paranoia and violence, and the innuendo is nasty. Damned media; left alone, all they try to do is make people feel better, despite the facts, to fill more seats. |

Im all for making weed legal because a half of billion dollars is spent every year on putting people in jail for smoking/selling weed. When in reality, weed is harmless. Look at how many people alchohol and cigaretts kill every year, let alone EVERY DAY. How many people has weed killed? Very few. I mean maybe they'll be going down the road at 2 miles an hour but who are they gonna harm? This is acctually coming from a person who smokes it. |

I do not want to stop either one of those, and If I am down in the dumps the alcohal and cigs are the first thing to cure my pain, not Marijuana!!! So you tell me what is more addictive? What is bad for our soul? Where is the reality in all the shit we hide as walking, living, caring citizens of our society? |

In fact, legalize all drugs. Make them available to addicts and casual users and watch drug use plummet to not necessarily non-existence, but to a level where it's manageable. We do drugs in the first place because it's taboo and the concequences aren't readily available. And because some stooge named "ralph" is waving a dime-bag in our faces. Substitute "Ralph" with a liscenced pharmacist and you have drug users informed about their choices. Many, if not the majority, will think twice when they're concious of the damage they're doing to their minds and bodies. Plus, crime would be cut virually in half. But that's just my opinion. Maybe they should make a age limit on weed. It is a great cash crop and the government could make tons of money selling it. But they are dumb asses. Being "less" harmful than a substance should not cause you to question whether Marijuana should be legal but whether or not that substance (i.e. alcohol and tobacco) should be legal. I do find it vexing that Marijuana is illegal and that all of the other things in our society such as tobacco and alcohol are legal. While people do have a right to decide what they want to do, is it not the government's right to protect them? I think that I have raised more questions than answers. Thanks. |

Also if marijuana was legalized the percent of people using it for actual medicenal would be very small. Most importantly, marijuana has a very bad effect on all of society. It may not seem like a problem now, but the children of heavy weed smokers have a lower IQ then the children of none weed smokers. So imagine this if the children of weed smokers start to smoke weed, then their childern smoke weed, and so on and so on then what will the average IQ of humanity be 500 years from now. Weed smoking can in fact be literaly retarding the world. |
